At a conference friday, Vice policechief in Oslo, Roger Andresen, critisised the towns government for not taking the binge drinking-problem seriously enough. The conference were held by IOGT Norway, and ment to highlight the connection between alcohol consumption and violence. Violence in many of the cities in Norway has increased the last years as opening hours has been relaxed and there has been given more licencing to pubs and nightclubs.

The vice police chief pointed to that politicans has been concerned that the drug scene in Oslo gives the city a bad reputation, but the effects of binge-drinking does the same. He did not think more police in the streets would solve the problem, and was frustrated that city government did not listen to police advice.

At the same conference, Ingeborg Rossow, researcher at SIRUS, Norwegian institute for Alcohol and Drug Research, presented the researchers view of the situation. 75% of those commited for murder is intoxicated, while 50% off those murdered was the same. 80% of charged for acts of violence are under the influence of alcohol, while only 3-4% of other drugs. And 2 out 3 victims of violence at the emegency ward in Oslo is under the influence of alcohol. Also Rossow meant that the solution had to be less relaxed opening hours, and showed to examples from other norwegian cities that this had worked.
